On 29th August, National Sports Day and also the second anniversary of Fit India Movement as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Anurag Singh Thakur Launched Fit India App at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi.
Nisith Pramanik, Minister of State, Ministry of Youth Affairs was present in the event. Shri Ravi Mittal Secretary, Sports and Smt Usha Sharma Secretary, Youth Affairs, were also present at the launch event. At the start of the event, the Minister of sports and youth Affairs, Anurag Singh Thakur, and Nisith Pramanik paid huge respect to the Legend of Hockey Major Dhyan Chand at the Stadium.
Anurag Singh Thakur mentioned that, “Fit India Application was gifted from the government to people of India on National Sports day, which is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Legendary Hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. The fit India application is a tribute to an Icon of country’s sportspersons, Major Dhyan Chand. The application is must for a sportsperson to remain fit and follow the application for better results in one’s fitness life. The effort is to keep young generation fit because young generations are future of India. As we don’t give enough importance to fitness, all we have to do is dedicate just half an hour of our time daily to fitness.”
He also stated that “A healthy, fit India is the New India we envision for our citizens!” Fit India Mobile App is India’s most comprehensive fitness App launched for 135 crore Indians.”
Fit India Movement was launched on 29th August 2019 which is the occasion of National Sports Day by Honourable PM with the vision to make fitness an integral part of the lives every Indian.
“The Fit India Mobile App brings the simplicity of checking one’s fitness levels directly into the palm of every Indian,” the Minister added, congratulating everyone on the Fit India Movement’s second anniversary as well as National Sports Day. It includes elements such as a ‘fitness score,’ animated films, activity monitors, and ‘my plan,’ which caters to individual needs.”
Shri Nisith Pramanik during the event said that “the contribution of countrymen in making Fit India Movement a Jan Andolan is incredible. This Fit India App will help in making New India a Fit India and fulfill the dream of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.” Sports Minister Shri Anurag Thakur is a true role model for Fit India and he inspires everyone, said Shri Pramanik honoring Mr.thakur.
The launch event was going live on Fit India’s Facebook page and the application is free of cost for IOS and Android users and can be accessed in English and Hindi. It also works on basic smartphones.
During the launch, the Ministers were virtually connected with few more participants of the event, who showed the usage of the app in their own ways. Indian Hockey team captain Manpreet Singh used the app herself and admired the app for its modern features and the easy usability of the application. Wrestler Sangram Singh performed Vraksha Aasan with Shri Anurag thakur and Shri Nitish Pramanik to maintain the stability and balance of the body. Ayaz Memon, a journalist brought to spotlight the importance of fitness for old people and exhibited the chair stretch test for fitness. Captain Anny Divya, a pilot highlighted the importance of monitoring water intake and sleep during her busy work schedule with the help of the app. She also performed modified pushups during the session.
Shruti Tomar, a class VIII student spoke about importance of physical fitness along with studies and school work. Housewife Shyamlee Sharma demonstrated the use of Fit India application.
On 29th August 2019, the Fit India Movement was launched by the honorable PM with an aim of making India a fit and healthy nation. “Fitness is easy, fun and free, and can be practiced anywhere” was the motto told by the PM.
On 29th August 2020, on the 1st anniversary of Fit India Movement, the Prime Minister launched ‘The Age appropriate fitness protocols for three age groups (1) 5-18 years (2) 18-65 Years and (3) 65+ Years.’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched age-appropriate norms for fitness in 2020. The Prime Minister had also given a fitness mantra for the people in the country – FITNESS KI DOSE, AADHA GHANTA ROZ”.
And on 29th August 2021, Fit India Application was launched by Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports. Moreover, these norms of Fit India App are certified by World Health Organisation (WHO) and have been made according to international standards also.
The feature of Fit India App is unique which enables each individual to check his/her own fitness score based on a set of age specific fitness tests. The test also provides specific recommendations on how to improve their fitness level by practicing physical activities and yoga. The app also provides you with animated videos to make the users understand about the process of doing the physical tests by themselves. These protocols have also been made keeping in mind the age appropriation launched by Prime Minister.
The ‘Fitness Protocol’ feature of this app allows users from different age groups to practice different exercises to achieve the basic fitness necessary and appropriate to their age. The protocol provides exercises which are approved by health experts and which are universally accepted.
