End of World’s “Longest War”, US troops leaves Afghanistan

The world’s longest war between the US and Afghanistan has finally come to an end as the US decided to bring back their last remaining troop from the Kabul airport and Us troops leaves Afghanistan. This also put an end to the huge evacuation drive that airlifted approximately 1,20,000 civilians from Afghanistan.

On Monday, 30th August 2021 the US pulled out their last remaining troops in Afghanistan putting an end to the 20 years-long war between the US and Afghanistan, which also resulted at the end of the evacuation drive that secured and airlifted more than 1,20,000 civilians from Afghanistan. This withdrawal happened after the military advisers of the US unanimously recommended to Joe Biden for the decision making of US troops leaves Afghanistan. President of the US that it was high time, and this war should come to an end as this is the only way they could save the lives of their troops and the Civilians.

The 20 years longest war between the US and Afghanistan that began when Afghanistan denied to handover the terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden, the founder and leader of the terrorist group Al-Qaeda and the mind behind the terrorist attack of 11th September 2001 on the US officially came to an end when US decided to withdraw their last remaining troops from Afghanistan which also resulted at the end of the giant evacuation drive by the US for its civilians which were stuck in Afghanistan. Joe Biden, President of the US said; “Now, our 20- year military presence in Afghanistan has ended.” Although Biden was highly pressurized by several allies including Europe into not backing off presently, he went ahead clarifying why he took this step in the first place, he said; “it was the unanimous recommendation of the Joint Chiefs and of all of our commanders on the ground to end our airlift mission as planned. Their view was that ending our military mission was the best way to protect the lives of our troops, and secure the prospects of civilian departures for those who want to leave Afghanistan in the weeks and months ahead.” According to Biden, the recent suicide bombing in Kabul airport which ended up taking the lives of 13 US troops and dozen Afghan Civilians made him ponder over the decision of withdrawal.

The end of the war was officially announced by General Kenneth McKenzie, US commander who was in charge of the US troops in Afghanistan at a Pentagon news conference. McKenzie stated that the US troops have successfully evacuated 1,23,000 civilians. However, they did not succeed in rescuing every US citizen. He expressed; “There’s a lot of heartbreak associated with this departure, we did not get everybody out that we wanted to get out.”
