Imran Khan, Pakistani PM faces Court

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan is set to appear in court in the capital Islamabad today in a case related to Toshakhana. The police have attempted to arrest Imran before but failed due to his party’s intervention. However, there are suspicions that the police may try to arrest him from the court premises.

Imran Khan tweeted that while he was on his way to court, police had barged into his house and lathi-charged him. He had lost power after criticizing the army last year. He questioned the legality of their actions and asked which law allowed them to do so.

In the Toshakhana case, Imran has described the allegations against him as politically motivated. He claimed rivals aim to suppress his voice but trusts in the people of Pakistan to prevent such attempts.

The Toshakhana case against Imran Khan, for which he had evaded arrest despite multiple previous hearings, will resume in an Islamabad court.  Imran Khan expressed his outrage on Twitter over the Punjab police raid on his house where his wife was alone. He claimed the assault was part of the illegal London Plan, which aimed to reinstate Nawaz Sharif in exchange for a particular appointment.

The court authorities only allow Imran to be accompanied by six party leaders inside the court premises. Police are ready to block Imran’s supporters from reaching the court and are not allowing any outsiders.

It is unclear whether the court will arrest Imran Khan today or not. PTI has previously stated that Imran is their red line, suggesting that any action against him could worsen the situation.
