“Narasimha the third appointee” from bar to CJI

The central government is going to issue the warrant to direct appointments for nine individuals as Supreme Court Justices. Senior Attorney PS Narasimha became a small part of the lawyer’s list who have been directly appointed to the Supreme Court from Bar and he will be the third appointed to become the Chief Justice of India.

These nine names, including three women, are accepted for the appointment of judges of the top court by the government.

Senior Attorney PS Narasimha has been short-listed with other lawyers. He has been appointed directly as a judge for the Supreme Court of India from the Bar.

He mentioned in one of his interviews in 2014, “He graduated from Nizam College, Hyderabad and he had a keen interest in law and pursued it from Delhi. Most of his friends shifted to Delhi to prepare for the IAS exam as he had no interest in IAS, hence, he went to Delhi to pursue law.”

He has been a part of this profession for almost three decades. For two years, he served as the great adviser (amicus) for the Green Bench of the Supreme Court. He is also a pundit in environmental jurisprudence.

Some other judges who had been directly appointed from the Bar are Justice SM Sikri, SC Roy, Kuldip Singh, Santosh Hegde, Rohinton Nariman, UU Lalit, L Nageswara Rao, and Indu Malhotra. Justice SM Sikri was directly elected head of the judiciary for the first time.  NV Ramna, the current Chief Justice of India, will retire on 2nd August 2022. SC Judge UU Lalit will replace him. UU Lalit will hold the position of CJI on August 27, 2022

Narasimha will be the third to become the Chief Justice of India. He will be tenanted at the post from October 30, 2027, to May 2028. He is the newest to move from bar to the position of CJI and is looking forward to serve as Chief Justice of India for more than a year by 2027.
